Nurture Nature Center hosts a variety of science and art exhibits, including the Science on a Sphere® (SOS), a room sized animated globe that provides an exciting educational tool to illustrate planetary and earth sciences to people of all ages. The globe features striking visualizations showing a diverse range of phenomena, including hurricanes, earthquakes, climate change, transportation, the planets, moons, and more. Over 500 fascinating datasets from NOAA and NASA are available, with new material added regularly. The SOS, coupled with explanations by docents, makes it possible to teach science concepts in a way that is both intuitive and captivating. Visit the SOS during our open house hours. A new topic is featured regularly during our Sphere Spotlight and a themed program is held monthly, including subjects such as the solar system, migration, geology, and habitats.

Also at NNC, find an interactive Science on a Sphere® Explorer touch screen kiosk exhibit. This exhibit lets you take control and explore the Sphere yourself in a touch screen environment, with tours to show you all about weather, geology, and more.

Additional science exhibits, including the Interactive Watershed Exhibit (an augmented reality sandbox), explore issues related to watersheds, flooding, climate change and a wide variety of local environmental topics.  NNC also hosts a variety of community programs, presentations, film screenings, panel discussions, brown bag lunches, forums, and other events about relevant environmental issues.

Complementing these science programs, our “Living Local” mural and its accompanying guidebook, and a replica of “Manifest Destiny,” a monumental mural of New York City under water, provide countless environmental lessons and talking points.

NNC also regularly hosts a virtual informal evening event for individuals who want to connect over a variety of science topics. Each science café starts with a round of trivia questions, followed with a brief talk by a guest speaker on various topics, and ends with an engaging discussion. Join us for a Science Cafe!
