Is Your Community Resilient?
What does resilience even mean? What natural hazards are likely to occur in your area and how can the community be prepared to manage the possible impacts?
These are important questions for communities to consider and discuss as we experience future changes in climate, weather, environment, and development.
Nurture Nature Center is leading a 4 year grant-funded project to educate and explore natural hazards and mitigation strategies in the local areas of Easton, Wilson and Bangor.
As we finish up year one, learning about natural hazards and their impacts, and launch into year two, exploring mitigation and adaptation strategies, NNC invites all residents, business owners, municipal officials and other community leaders to participate in our CREATE Resilience Community Forum and Exhibit Opening on September 26th from 6-8:30 pm. We welcome guest speaker Dr. William Solecki from the Consortium for Climate Risk in the Urban Northeast to present on climate change and resilience. After his presentation, participants will have the chance to share their thoughts on hazards, what it means to be resilient, and how to prepare for and mitigate hazard events. A captivating exhibit highlighting memorable stories and photos of local residents’ experiences with hazards will be on display for participants to view and interact with.
Registration for this event is now full. The first 70 to register will receive $40 for their participation in the program.
