Watershed-Friendly Property Sign

This program allows property owners to fill out a simple online application and qualify for a sign that certifies their property as watershed-friendly. The sign shows your commitment to managing a healthy watershed by reducing stormwater runoff, reducing water pollution, conserving water, and supporting wildlife and pollinators.

About the sign:

Crafted from rust-free solid iron
Measures 25″ L from the top of the plaque to the point which goes into the ground
The plaque measures 10″ H x 14″ W and features rounded edges
Stake is collapsible for easy storage
Comes with screws to attach plaque to stake

Applicants that qualify will be eligible to order a Watershed-Friendly Property sign for a small fee.

About the Program Application

Nurture Nature Center and the Penn State Extension Master Watershed Steward program collaborated to finalize the development of the Watershed Friendly program and will be conducting outreach activities throughout Pennsylvania.

The Master Watershed Steward program transforms citizens into a managed, educated, organized volunteer force addressing local conservation priorities. A key strength of the program is its focus on collaboration, working with a broad partnership of local and state organizations, agencies, and government. People who want to make a difference are given the information and the opportunity to do so, guided by local conservation professionals who organize, supervise, and engage the volunteers to make a positive impact in their communities and their water quality. Nurture Nature Center (NNC) is a science-based community center, founded in 2007, focused on local environmental risks. Using a blend of science, art and community dialogue, NNC offers programming about environmental risks that people care about in their community. The Center hosts thousands of visitors, both adults and children, every year. NNC has done environmental education programming, including programming for science teachers, on the topics of flooding, climate change, local food issues as well as other environmental issues of public concern.

Funding
Financial and other support for the “Watershed-Friendly Properties – an education and certification program” has been provided by the Department of Environmental Protection’s 2020 Environmental Education Grants Program. Project partners include Nurture Nature Center and Penn State Extension.

If the history of earth was written in a book with one page per year that book would be 100 miles thick. Come join us on a walking tour through time on the Karl Stirner Arts Trail. We will walk one mile from the formation of the earth 4.6 billion years ago to the present. Each step will take us 2 million years forward through time to the present. We will see earth’s pivotal changes including when the crust cooled, when life started, and how all of human history compares to the vast geological history of our planet. Meet at the 13th St parking lot
