In July, NNC’s Executive Director Rachel Hogan Carr was interviewed on WHYY radio in Philadelphia about severe weather alerts and public response, on the radio show “The Why,” hosted by Annette John-Hall. In response to that program, the New Jersey Association of Floodplain Managers has awarded NNC its annual Media Award, for effectively using media for outreach related to flooding and warnings. The conversation dealt with the challenge of messaging for severe and frequent events, through multiple warning systems, without causing people to fatigue from warnings.
Pictured here granting Rachel the award are Maria DiSalvatore, Chair of NJAFM Awards Committee, and Cleighton Smith, Vice Chair of the committee. You can listen to the program here: https://whyy.org/episodes/are-we-doing-severe-weather-alerts-wrong/
